Privacy Policy for Gem Maze
Last Updated: September 19, 2026
Gem Maze ("the game") is a browser game developed by Carrie on Accessibility. Playing it needs no account and stores nothing anywhere but your own browser. Signing in is optional, and only adds a leaderboard and a copy of your progress online.
Summary
Without signing in, Gem Maze keeps your settings and progress in your browser only. If you choose to sign in, your points, the levels you have unlocked and a display name you choose are stored online so the leaderboard can show them and your progress can follow you between devices.
What Is Stored on Your Device
The game uses your browser's localStorage — a small amount of storage built into your browser, tied to your device and browser only — to remember:
- Your settings: level, difficulty, the chaser, camera movement, animation, wall hangings, floor, ceiling lights, text size, theme, sound and volume, chime options, text-to-speech voice and speed, and each announcement and sound-effect switch.
- Your progress: the highest level you have unlocked, your best points on each level, and how each best was earned.
- The name you chose for the leaderboard, if any.
None of this leaves your device unless you sign in.
What Is Stored Online If You Sign In
Signing in uses the shared CoA Apps account (email and password, or Google), provided by Google Firebase Authentication. When you are signed in, the game stores:
- A leaderboard entry: your chosen display name, your total points, your best points per level, the highest level you have completed and how it was earned, and when the entry was last updated. The leaderboard is public: anyone who opens the game can see the names and points on it, whether or not they are signed in.
- A private copy of the progress and name listed above, so they can be restored on another device. Only you can read it.
Your email address is never shown on the leaderboard. You choose the display name; it defaults to the first part of your account name, and you can change it in Settings at any time.
Text-to-Speech and Audio
Gem Maze uses your browser's built-in speech synthesis (the Web Speech API) for the optional spoken announcements, and your browser's built-in Web Audio API to generate the chimes, footsteps and other sounds. Neither sends anything anywhere: everything is generated on your device.
Analytics
Like the rest of CoA Apps, this game counts visits and plays anonymously, using a random browser identifier that is not linked to your account, name or email. See the CoA Apps privacy policy for the details.
What We Don't Do
- We do not sell or share your data.
- We do not use advertising of any kind.
- We do not collect your location or any information beyond what is listed above.
Your Control Over Your Data
Clearing your browser's site data for this page removes everything stored on your device. If you are signed in, you can change your display name in Settings, and deleting your CoA Apps account from the account menu removes your leaderboard entry and your online progress copy.
Children's Privacy
Gem Maze can be played fully without an account and collects no personal information from anyone who does not sign in.
