Privacy Policy for Typing Speedometer

Typing Speedometer ("the app") is a browser-based typing speed test developed by Carrie on Accessibility. It does not use any backend service - everything happens locally, in your own browser.

Summary

Typing Speedometer does not collect, transmit, or store any information anywhere except your own device. There's no account, no sign-in, no server, and no leaderboard.

What Is Stored, and Where

The app uses your browser's localStorage - a small amount of storage built into your browser, tied to your device and browser only - to remember:

• Your display settings: color theme, text sizes, text-to-speech voice and speed, and sound effects settings.
• Your test history: the mode, theme or story, test length, words per minute, accuracy, passages completed, and time for your past tests.
• If you use the "My Own Text" mode, whatever text you paste in or upload is only ever read into the page to display it back to you for typing practice, and pasted text is not saved once you leave or close the page. Text you upload as a file is saved to a "Saved Texts" library stored in localStorage so you can reuse it later, until you delete it yourself from that list or clear your browser's site data.

None of this - including anything you paste in or upload - is ever sent to us, to Carrie on Accessibility, or to any third party. It never leaves your device.

Text-to-Speech

Typing Speedometer uses your browser's built-in speech synthesis (the Web Speech API) to read sentences, words, controls, and results aloud. This runs entirely within your browser using voices already installed on your device or provided by your browser - no audio or text is sent to us as part of this feature, including any custom text you've pasted in.

What We Don't Do

• We do not collect your name, email address, location, or any other personal information.
• We do not use cookies, analytics, or advertising of any kind on this page or within the app.
• We do not sell or share any data, because none is ever collected in the first place.

Your Control Over Your Data

You can clear your saved test history at any time from the History screen's "Clear History" button within the app, and delete any individual saved text from your "Saved Texts" library using its own delete button in the My Own Text mode. Clearing your browser's site data for this page will also remove all saved settings, history, and saved texts.

Children's Privacy

Typing Speedometer was designed to be usable by children, teens, and adults alike, and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last Updated" date.
